Rhuemabel Dixon, 86, Was Mississippi Native

Rhuemabel Odessa (Carter) Dixon of Oak Bluffs died at her home surrounded by her family on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003. She was 86. She was the loving wife of the late George H. Dixon.

Rhuemabel was born on Oct. 30, 1917 in Saatchi, Miss., to the late Robert D. and Susie (Sanders) Carter. She was raised in Anadale, Miss., and later moved to Memphis, Tenn. She attended Woodstock Trade School and Shelby Technical School, Tenn. Rhuemabel worked for 40 years as a domestic in various homes in the Berkshires and spent 18 years working as a geriatric nurse's aide at the Great Barrington Nursing Home.

She was active with the Jehovah's Witness, for which she was a traveling minister and a special pioneer worker. Rhuemabel enjoyed reading sewing and spending time with "The Friends."

She is survived by her four children, Steve C. Dixon of California, Joan Fuller and Mabel D. Dixon, both of Maryland, and Linda Dixon of Vineyard Haven; a brother, Robert D. Carter of California; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was also predeceased by her sister, Reba Juanita (Carter) Wright.
