Ralph H. Mone, 82, Was Veteran of World War II

Ralph Hewlett Mone, 82, died peacefully in his sleep at the home of his daughter and son in law, Susan and Steven Bradley of Tisbury, on Dec. 10.

He was born August 29, 1921 to Ralph and Marion Mone in Brooklyn, N.Y. He attended Colgate University and obtained his B.S. and M.B.A. degrees from New York University.

He married the former Lorraine Olsen in 1943 and they lived on Long Island before moving to Armonk, N.Y., in 1955. They moved to Brewster, N.Y., in 1979. Mrs. Mone died in 1993.

Mr. Mone served as an engineering officer on a landing ship in the Pacific during World War II. He was quartermaster of the Brewster VFW and a member of the American Legion. Mr. Mone retired from IBM in 1982 after 36 years in various financial functions in New York city, Yorktown, White Plains and other locations.

While living in Armonk, he served as town councilman, library trustee and was the first chairman of the parks, recreation and conservation board. He was also president of the Byram Hills Scholarship Fund.

Since moving to Brewster in 1979 he served as treasurer of Blackberry Hill Condo IV for 15 years and was on the zoning board of appeals for the town of Southeast for more than 10 years. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster and served on the finance committee. Mr. Mone is survived by his loving family including two daughters, Susan Bradley and her husband, Steven, of Tisbury; Diane Ferzola of Brewster, N.Y., and grandchildren Robert and Mary Ferzola, also of Brewster.

His funeral service was held in Brewster, N.Y., on Monday, Dec. 15. Entombment followed the service in Rose Hills Memorial Park, Putnam, N.Y. A memorial service will be held this Saturday, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m. in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 56 Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road, Oak Bluffs with the Rev. Robert Edmunds officiating.
