Judith Clark Lombard Was Artist, Entrepreneur

Judith (Judi) Clark Lombard of Newport, Cambridge and Martha's Vineyard lost her battle with breast cancer at her home in Newport, R.I., on Feb. 27.

A successful entrepreneur, she founded and owned Island Canvas with stores on Martha's Vineyard, in Newport and in Boston. She designed and made items the company sold and personally produced the colorful prototype canvas models.

Reared in Cambridge, Judi, a passionate art lover, held a degree from Massachusetts College of Art, a master's from Brown University and a C.A.G.S. from Boston University. She was a 1995 recipient of the Ted Sizer Fellowship of Harvard University and taught art at the Gaudet School in Middletown, R.I., and at A.L.P. High School in Providence. She took great pride in the achievements of her students.

Judi will be missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Predeceased by her parents, James H. Clark and Mildred Mack, Judi is survived by her son, Alexander Clark Lombard of Cambridge; sisters Joanne Johnson of Cambridge, Andrea Clark of Asheville, N.C., Jennifer Ramsey of Sacramento, Calif.; Ruth Clark Norman of Gulfport, Miss.; a brother, James H. Clark Jr. of Jamaica Plain; godchildren Eric Jennings and Evangeline Campbell; aunt, uncle, cousins, nieces, nephews and many great friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the hospice program at Visiting Nurse Service of Newport and Bristol County, 1184 E. Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
