Stanley Maynard Sr., 81, Served in World War II
On Wednesday, March 31, after a long illness, Stanley S. Maynard Sr., son of the late Eleazer Maynard and Isabel (Johnson) Maynard of Barbados, West Indies, died comfortably in his Oak Bluffs home at the age of 81.
Mr. Maynard Sr., formerly of Cambridge and Woburn, leaves his three adult children, Sananda (NaNa) Maynard, Stanley Maynard Jr., Keith Maynard; his longtime partner Iris Coleman; a sister, Lillian Henderson of Medford; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Frances I. (Barker) Maynard, in 1974.
Mr. Maynard was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a past master of the Eureka Masonic Lodge of Prince Hall Syria Temple No. 31 in Boston.
A summer resident of the Vineyard since 1963, he was a charter member of The Polar Bears of Martha's Vineyard. Mr. Maynard was greatly admired by his friends and family and will be deeply missed.
A memorial service is being planned for the summer. All friends and family will be notified. In lieu of flowers the family requests that any donations be made in the name of Stanley Maynard to: Hospice of Martha's Vineyard, Inc., PO Box 2549, Oak Bluffs 02557, an organization that served him well and provided tremendous support in his final days. Arrangements are under the care of the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home.
