Ida Batten, Age 83, Was a Native of Nova Scotia

Ida Batten of Edgartown died May 27 at the Martha's Vineyard Hospital. She was 83.

She was the wife of the late Charles Batten and the daughter of Edward Marryatt and Ella Maude.

She was born on Dec. 21, 1920 and was raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. There she married and two of her sons were born there before she moved to Edgartown in 1950.

She raised the rest of the family on the Island while she worked as a housekeeper for many Edgartown families, but for many years for Dr. Nevin.

She is survived by three sons, Joseph of Taunton, Richard of Plymouth and Douglas of Edgartown; a daughter, Muriel Monaco of Oak Bluffs, and seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A graveside service for the interment of her cremains will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 11, in the New Westside Cemetery, Edgartown. Donations may be made to Hospice of MV, P.O. Box 2549, Oak Bluffs, MA 02557 or to the MSPCA, P.O. Box 2097, Edgartown, MA 02539. Arrangements are by the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home in Oak Bluffs.
