Robert Basque, 43, Loved Fishing, Time with Family
Robert S. Basque, a resident of Edgartown for the past 11 years, died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 7, at the Mass General Hospital in Boston. Born in Agana, Guam on March 15, 1961, he was the son of John D. and Cecelia A. (Whittle) Basque of Edgartown and Florida.
He graduated from Wethersfield High School in Wethersfield, Conn., in 1979 and the University of Connecticutt in 1983. Mr. Basque was a real estate salesman at Martha's Vineyard Vacation Rentals and a self-employed subcontractor for many years.
An avid fisherman, he participated annually in the Martha's Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby. He enjoyed sports, especially softball and golf; but most importantly, he loved spending time with his nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Michelle M. Pikor and her husband, Wesley, of Edgartown and Sheryl L. Grills and her husband, Timothy, of Niantic; a brother, John C. Basque and his wife, Nancy, of Plainville; three nieces, Megan Grills, Kara Basque and Larissa Basque, and four nephews, Jerome Pikor, Charlie Pikor, Christopher Basque and Jacob Basque.
A celebration of his life was held at noon on Monday, July 12, at St. Elizabeth's Church in Edgartown. Donations in his memory may be made to Martha's Vineyard Hospital, c/o development office, P.O. Box 1477, Oak Bluffs, MA 01557.
