Tammy Frey, 33, Enjoyed Summers on the Island
Tammy Gay Frey died July 13 as the result of Huntington's Disease. She had been at Massachusetts General Hospital and was most recently in the care of Health Care Dimensions. She was 33.
Born in New York, she was the daughter of Walter P. and Beryl G. Frey. Ms. Frey lived in Garden City New York until her graduation from high school and spent every summer on Martha's Vineyard.
She was graduated from the Waldorf School in Garden City, N.Y., and attended Lasell College in Newton. She received a certificate in early childhood education from Bunker Hill Community College and was a volunteer at Mulberry Kids in Wellesley.
Ms. Frey was also a volunteer in numerous studies related to the treatment of Huntington's Disease, which affects neurological function including cognitive and motor skills. A number of these scientific studies have led to treatments which help control the symptoms of Huntington's. There is currently no known cure.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her sister and brother, Tabetha G. McCartney and Karl W. Frey; her nieces and nephews, Kyla, Kaitlyn, Xavier, Aigneis and Augustine.
A memorial service will be held at the chapel at Massachusetts General Hospital, 55 Fruit street, Boston, at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 16. A celebration of Ms. Frey's life will be held on August 17 at 11 a.m. in the Tabernacle of the Martha's Vineyard Camp Meeting Association, Oak Bluffs.
