Florence M. Grover Was Active in Volunteer Work

Florence M. Grover of Edgartown died Wednesday, Sept. 8, at the Martha's Vineyard Hospital. She was the wife of the late Sumner C. Grover. She was 81.

Mrs. Grover was born May 16, 1923 in Elbridge, N.Y., to the late Albert A. and Laura (Leader) Mead. She was a graduate of Jordan High School in New York, class of 1942. She was married May 7, 1949 to Sumner C. Grover. They lived in Syracuse, N.Y., moving to Chicopee and then settling in Wellesley for many years. Mrs. Grover worked at the Wellesley National Bank, which later became the South Shore National Bank, as an administrator. She and her husband retired to Martha's Vineyard where she continued to work at the Vineyard Harbor Hotel, Katama Shores Hotel, as a tour guide at the Vincent House and at the Edgartown Council on Aging, where she volunteered many hours.

She was the devoted mother of Sumner M. Grover of Edgartown. She also leaves three cousins: Barbara Bell of Canada, Judith Bullman of England and June Messier of Newport, Vt.

Graveside services were held Monday, Sept. 13, at 3 p.m. in the New Westside Cemetery, Edgartown. Arrangements are by the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home in Oak Bluffs. Visit www.ccgfuneralhome.com for online guest book and information.
