Deborah Irene Levett, 57, Ran Brickman's Store

Deborah Irene Levett of West Tisbury and Bonita Springs, Fla., died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Oct. 20 in Florida. She was 57.

Debbi is survived by her husband of 35 years, Bruce L. Levett; her daughter and son in law, Tarni and Vasska Fondren; and her son and his partner, Jakob Levett and Emily Graham.

Originally from Swampscott, Debbi attended Goucher College in Maryland, graduating in 1969. Shortly after graduation she and Bruce were married and settled on Martha's Vineyard, where Bruce had grown up. Together they ran the family business, Brickman's, started in 1913 by Bruce's grandfather, Judal Brickman. Debbi, who always had a way with numbers, kept the books for the store until her untimely death.

In 2003, Debbi embarked on a new chapter of her life as she and her husband became residents of Bonita Springs, while maintaining their West Tisbury home as their summer residence. Debbi was enjoying life to the fullest, meeting lots of new friends, playing Mah-Jongg, taking cooking classes, practicing the piano, attending Naples Philharmonic Center for the Arts performances, walking her two dogs and exercising every morning at the community center.

A burial service was held on Friday, Oct. 22 at the Martha's Vineyard Hebrew Cemetery in Vineyard Haven. A memorial service was held in her community, Pelican Landing, in Bonita Springs on Tuesday, Oct. 26.

Memorial contributions may be made in Debbi's name to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, where Debbi volunteered in the past: MSPCA-MV, P.O. Box 2097, Edgartown, MA 02539.
