Lawrence A. Gazaille of Edgartown died Friday, Oct. 15 at the Martha's Vineyard Hospital after a long illness. He was 83.

Mr. Gazaille was married to Janet (Caron) Gazaille for 52 years. He was one of seven children born to Joseph Gazaille and Mary Pinsonnault. He was born in Edgartown on Oct. 7, 1921 in one of the rooms which is now the Square Rigger.

He enlisted in the United States Army during World War II serving over three years overseas.

Mr. Gazaille worked at the Navigator Room and the Harborside Inn as the maintenance person for nearly thirty years. He was a fisherman and deep sea scalloper earlier in life. He enjoyed scalloping, clamming and fishing. During his leisure time Mr. Gazaille did home reconstruction which seemed to be a never-ending affair, alongside his gardening chores.

He is survived by his wife; his son, Dennis Gazaille and his daughter, Sheila Gazaille-Grush both of Edgartown; and his two grandchildren, Jason John Gazaille and Shaina Grush; a sister, Dorothy West of Edgartown and many nieces and nephews.
