Linwood J. Belisle, 81, Served in World War II

Linwood J. Belisle of Edgartown died Wednesday, Nov. 3 at Martha's Vineyard Hospital after a prolonged illness. He was 81.

Mr. Belisle was born in Boston on May 9, 1923 the son of Edward A. Belisle and his wife Florence M. Rouse Belisle. He married Doris E. Keenan in October of 1946.

He was educated in Boston and the Edgartown School. Mr. Belisle was a World War II veteran and served with the 506th P.I., 2nd BT of the 101st A/B Division. He parachuted into Normandy on D-Day, and from there parachuted into Holland. He also fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Besides his wife Mr. Belisle is survived by his daughter, Deborah Pederson and her husband Geir and their children; Jessica, Annika, Andre, Jonathan, William and Regina all of Spydeberg, Norway; his nephew Edward and his wife Janis Belisle of Edgartown; his niece Karen and her husband Henry Child of West Tisbury. He was predeceased in 1992 by his son Ralph Vincent Belisle also predeceased by his brother Eugene Belisle.

A graveside service was held on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at the Old Westside Cemetery, Edgartown with the Rev. Nancy Wnek officiating. Full military honors were offered by the Veterans of Martha's Vineyard. Arrangements are under the care of Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home.
