Francis T. Doyle, 82, Was Public School Educator

Francis T. Doyle of Oak Bluffs died Oct. 29 at the Windemere Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 82.

Francis was born March 11, 1923, in Cambridge, the son of Albert T. Doyle and Mary H. Allen. His father was a former city clerk of Cambridge.

Francis was graduated from the Cambridge High and Latin School and furthered his education at Harvard University. He enrolled in 1941 and is recorded as having received his degree with the Class of 1945 even though he enlisted in the Air Force during World War II and was graduated after the war.

Francis was a public school educator in Cambridge until his retirement in 1978. He retired to Martha's Vineyard, where he and his family summered for many years, taking the train from Cambridge.

He was a charter member of the Farm Neck Golf Club, member of the American Legion Post 0442 in Cambridge, the VFW Post 9261 in Oak Bluffs and a member of the Holy Ghost Association in Oak Bluffs.

He is survived by three nephews, Allen Doyle and Stephen Doyle of Braintree and Kevin Doyle and his wife, Nancy, of Plymouth. He was predeceased by his brother, Albert A. Doyle, and his sister, Margaret M. Doyle.

His funeral Mass was celebrated in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church on Massasoit avenue in Oak Bluffs on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 11 a.m. Interment followed in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
