Nicholas Corio, 85, Was Veteran of World War II
Nicholas M. Corio of West Tisbury died at Falmouth Hospital on Dec. 1. He was 85 years old. He was the widower of Marjorie Allen Corio.
Mr. Corio was born in New Castle, Pa., on March 7, 1920, to Arsenio and Maria (Solimo) Corio. He grew up in New Castle and attended local schools there.
Mr. Corio served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Coast Guard and serving during World War II. He was stationed in Gloucester.
He met his wife on a visit to Martha's Vineyard and they were married on June 27, 1943. They resided with their children in Vineyard Haven until 1974, when they moved to West Tisbury. Mr. Corio worked first for Martha's Vineyard Shipyard and then for the Vineyard Electric Company, which he retired from in 1984.
He was a communicant at St. Augustine's Church in Vineyard Haven and was a member of the Moose Lodge, Holy Name Society and the American Legion Post.
He is survived by his children, Margaret A. St. Pierre of South Carolina, Mark A. Corio of Bourne and Patricia A. Kirk of West Tisbury; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews on and off Martha's Vineyard, and one sister, Louise P. Johnson of New Castle, Pa.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his daughter, Julie M. Belain, and siblings, infant brother Nicholas, John P. Corio, Rose Monico and Francis T. Corio.
His funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 5, at 1 p.m. in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home in Oak Bluffs. Interment followed at Oak Grove Cemetery in Vineyard Haven, with full military honors offered by the Veterans of Martha's Vineyard.
