Harriet Hatheway Marrin Was Dedicated Volunteer

Harriet Hatheway Marrin died peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 20. She was born in Greenwich, Conn., on July 19, 1918, the daughter of Carl A. and Nina Palmer Hatheway.

Harriet was active in the Litchfield, Conn., community as a member of the Litchfield Garden Club, Litchfield County Hounds, Red Cross driver and volunteer for the historical society; she was also an accomplished athlete keeping up golf and tennis throughout her life. She had a special love for horses and riding. She was a volunteer for 26 years for the Litchfield Little Britches -- a therapeutic riding program for challenged individuals. Harriet summered in East Chop with her family for the last 43 years.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Oswald W. Marrin, and four daughters, Harriet Blees Dewey, Judy Fyfe Marrin, Palmer Marrin Kleeman and Michele Marrin-Osterman, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, William A. Blees. Her first husband, F. William Blees, died in World War II.

There will be a memorial service celebrating her life at 11 a.m. on Jan. 18 at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Litchfield. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to Litchfield Little Britches Therapeutic Riding, care of Stuart Daly, 30 Tophet Road, Roxbury, CT 06783.
