Barbara Counsell Worked for Leslie's Pharmacy

Barbara Anne (Cryer) Counsell of Vineyard Haven died Friday, Jan. 6, at the Martha's Vineyard Hospital. She was 75.

A lifelong resident of the Island, Barbara was born on March 28, 1930, at the hospital in Oak Bluffs, the daughter of Henry Cryer and Annie (Curran) Cryer.

She was graduated from the Tisbury High School in 1948 and married Sidney B. Counsell just after. Her husband died in August 1982.

Barbara had worked for Leslie's Pharmacy since Sept. 1, 1980, after the closing of Ben Franklin Five and Dime where she had been working for many years.

She was a member of the VFW Ladies' Auxiliary and enjoyed square dancing, knitting, cooking and her cats. It was told she was the first customer at Vineyard Gourmet when they opened, and she enjoyed having lunch there ever after.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Noyes, and her husband, Alfred, of Edgartown; a son, Sidney B. Counsell Jr., and his wife, Judith, of West Tisbury; seven grandchildren, Tammy Noyes, Kristy Mayhew, Kelly Harlow, Cindy Noyes, Fred Noyes, Pam Amaral and Sharon Amaral; two great-grandchildren, Paul Henry Jeffers-Mayhew and Emma Elizabeth Mayhew; and her sister, Eileen Cryer of Randolph. She was predeceased by her brother, Henry Cryer Jr.

A memorial mass will be held at a later date.
