Alfred Rabaioli, 74, Was Veteran, Inspiration to All
Alfred N. (Buddy) Rabaioli of Mendon and formerly of Medway died Jan. 20 at Kindred Hospital in Boston. He was 74 years old.
Mr. Rabaioli was born in Medway on Sept. 24, 1931, the son of the late Mario and Adeline (Cardini) Rabaioli. He was raised in Medway and had lived in Mendon since 1997.
He was graduated from Medway High School in 1949. He was president of his graduating class and was an outstanding football and baseball player for the school, being captain of both teams. In high school he pitched a no hitter in one game.
Mr. Rabaioli was graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1953 where he also played on the baseball team. He served in the Army during the 1950s as a first lieutenant and tank unit commander in Germany.
He was the owner and operator of Medway Travel for many years. He had previously owned and operated Keystone Liquors in Medway for 25 years.
Mr. Rabaioli also operated for some years the Medway Monument Company begun by his late father.
He served on the Medway school committee.
An active man who lived his life to the fullest, Mr. Rabaioli did not let himself be affected by the fact that he was partially paralyzed for most of his life. He regularly went to the Veterans Administration Hospital in Boston to counsel returning veterans on the fact that despite their injuries they also could adapt and lead full lives. He was an inspiration to many.
He is survived by his son, Peter E. Rabaioli of Mendon, and a daughter, Diana B. Rabaioli of Edgartown. He is also survived by his fiancé, Donalee Brothers of Medway, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Edward and Robert Rabaioli.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 11:30 a.m. at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Medway. A reception will follow the service at noon at St. Joseph's parish center on Holliston street in Medway.
