Elizabeth R. Berry, 93, Was Devoted Volunteer

Elizabeth Rathbun Drisler Berry died Sunday, Feb. 5, at Stratford Court in Palm Harbor, Fla. She was 93 years old.

Betty Berry was born in Westfield, N.J., on March 1, 1912, and raised in Brooklyn and Bronxville, N.Y. Her parents were William Arthur Drisler and Jessie Rathbun Drisler. Betty was in the second graduating class of Sarah Lawrence College (1931).

She married Ward Leonard Berry in 1931, and they had four children; her husband died in 1967.

Betty volunteered at Lawrence Hospital for 10 years; was a board member of Family Consultation Service of Eastchester for six-and-a-half years; drove twice monthly for Meals on Wheels; served for several years as director of the Altar Guild, Christ Church, Bronxville; and was on the Board of Women of Christ Church.

Betty was a longtime parishioner of Christ Church in Bronxville, N.Y., and St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Edgartown.

She was a near lifelong resident of Bronxville and Edgartown. In her final years she lived briefly in Middletown, R.I., and then in Palm Harbor, Fla.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara McVay of Claymont, Del.; three sons, W. Leonard Berry Jr. of Auburn, Edward A. Berry of Dunedin, Fla., and John D. Berry of Seattle, Wash.; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Barbara Reimers of Pine Orchard, Conn., Frances Schoenfeld of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Doris Ferguson of St. Louis, Mo.

The funeral service will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Edgartown on Feb. 11 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Christ Church Altar Guild, St. Andrew's Church or Lawrence Hospital (Bronxville, N.Y.).
