John Viera Jr., 65, Was Public Works Foreman

John Viera Jr. of East Falmouth died Sunday, March 26, at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston after a long illness. He was 65.

He was the husband of Cecelia M. (Goulart) Viera, to whom he was married for 40 years.

Born and raised in Oak Bluffs, he was the son of the late John and Helen May (Fauteux) Viera. John was employed with the Oak Bluffs department of public works and later moved to Falmouth, where he worked for the Massachusetts department of public works as a heavy equipment operator and foreman for 41 years. He retired in 2001.

John was a special police officer in Falmouth for 15 years; he also coached Little League baseball in the town for several years. He enjoyed fishing, shell fishing and spending time with his grandchildren, Justin, Jason, Jessica, MacKenzie, Devin, Jordan, John and Melyssa.

In addition to his wife and grandchildren, he is survived by four daughters, Pamela Viera of East Falmouth, Cheryl Peterson of Spartanburg, S.C., Linda Willis of Mashpee and Sandra Silva of New Bedford, and two sons, John L. Viera of East Falmouth and Michael Viera of Marstons Mills.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, March 31, in St. Anthony's Church in East Falmouth. Interment will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
