Virginia S. Gassel Dies, Philanthropist and Artist

Virginia S. Gassel of Chicago, Ill., died April 2. She was 70.

Virginia, who owned a home at Green Pastures on Chappaquiddick for many years, was the beloved wife of the late Stuart P. Gassel, mother of Virginia S. Gassel Jr. and James A. Gassel, and grandmother of Grace M. Gassel. She was a philanthropist and humanitarian. She was passionate about her family, friends and the arts. She contributed her time to various organizations such as the Handel and Haydn Society, the Chicago Symphony and several museums.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 24, at 11 a.m. at the Fourth Presbyterian Church on Michigan avenue in Chicago.
