Edward Perry, 74, Worked in Masonry and Building

Edward A. Perry of Edgartown died Thursday, June 15, at the Martha's Vineyard Community Hospital after a battle with kidney cancer. He was 74 years old.

Ed was born April 8, 1932, in West Bridgewater, the son of the late Anthony and Francelina (Barboza) Perry.

He was a resident of West Bridgewater for many years. He was graduated from both the Brockton Vocational School and West Bridgewater Howard High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in October 1950, serving three years. He started his refinishing and kitchen cabinet business and then in the late sixties moved to the Vineyard, where his business included remodeling, masonry and building.

Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf, and he prided himself on his garden full of strawberries, vegetables and grapes. Mr. Perry was a member of the First Ev. Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary F. (Sanborn) Perry; two sons, Robert Edward Perry and Daniel Edward Perry, both of Oak Bluffs; two daughters, Carolyn Elaine (Lynne) Perry of Oak Bluffs and Nancy Elaine Bliss of Edgartown; a brother, David A. Perry of West Bridgewater; a sister, Shirley A. Battista of Middleboro; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four nieces and three nephews. He was predeceased by a nephew, C. Frank Anderson.

Visiting hours were held at Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home in Oak Bluffs on Saturday, June 17. Visiting hours also will be held in the chapel of the First Ev. Lutheran Church of Brockton from 11 to 11:45 a.m. today, June 20. Funeral services then will be held in the church at noon, with interment following at the Pine Hill Cemetery in West Bridgewater.
