James Geddis Jr. Worked in Family Paint Business

After a short battle with lung cancer, James B. Geddis Jr. died peacefully on Jan. 27 at the home of his daughter with his family at his side.

Jim loved the beach and often would be found walking the shoreline or swimming in the ocean. When he was younger he was a lifeguard at the Bend in the Road beach in Edgartown and taught many a youngster how to swim.

Jim also worked for his father in his painting business for many years.

In the sixties Jim moved to Florida and made his home in Fort Lauderdale, where he met his wife, Sharon.

Jim was predeceased by his parents, James and Amy Geddis, and his brother, Thomas Geddis. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his daughter and son in law, Kelly and John Hundley, and their children, Crystal, Amy, Johnny and Jessica of Rockhill, S.C.; his sister and brother in law, Sandra and Nelson deBettencourt; his niece, Melanie Marchan, and her husband, Michael; nephews Eric deBettencourt and his wife, Hope, and Michael deBettencourt and his wife, Erin, and many great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 31, at 11 a.m. at the New West Side Cemetery in Edgartown.
