Sean David Summers of East Falmouth died Thursday, Sept. 7, on the Vineyard. He was 35.

Sean was born Dec. 12, 1970, in Houston, Tex., and lived in several locations including Louisiana, Florida and the Vineyard, to name just a few, before settling on Cape Cod.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He served in the first Gulf War and was discharged in 1993. While in the Navy, he was trained in underwater operations.

Five years ago, Sean established a commercial diving business, Aquanaut Divers, based out of Cape Cod and the Vineyard. He also received a registered nursing degree at Florida State University in 1994. Sean held positions as a registered nurse in Massachusetts and Florida. He also received a culinary arts degree at Johnson and Whales University in 1990.

Among other things, Sean volunteered his skills and services at the World Trade Center disaster site after Sept. 11, 2001. He had a lifelong passion for marine activities, and his love for the water was a big part of his life. He loved diving for lobsters, spear fishing, traditional fishing and clamming. In addition, he had a love for travel; for football, being an avid Louisiana State University, Patriots and Red Sox fan; for hunting with family in Wisconsin; and for the art of fine cooking.

He is survived by his wife, Krissy Summers, and three sons, London, 5, Maxwell, 4, and Brett, 8 months, of East Falmouth. He is also survived by his biological family, his father, Ronald Scott Summers of Houston, Tex.; his sister, Rae Jean Tubre, with husband Shane Tubre, and nephews Gabriel Baker, 1, and Billy Baker, 10, of Baton Rouge, La.; his grandfather, Harold Hanson of Superior, Wis.; his aunt, Cynthia Roy of Opelousas, La. He also leaves his adopted family consisting of his mother, Mary Smith of Sunset, La., and his sister, Jean-Marie Richard of LaFayette, La.

Sean was preceded in death by his biological mother, Peggy-Jean Love of Opelouses, La., his grandmother, Joyce Arceneaux of Carencro, La., and his adopted father, Dr. Seymour Smith of Sunset, La.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at Blessed Sacrament RC Church on Federal street in Greenfield. A procession will follow to the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1390 Main street in Agawam; the memorial service there begins at 2 p.m.
