Leslie Freeman, 64, Ran Animal Shelter, Vet Clinic

Leslie J. Freeman of Edgartown died Thursday, Sept. 21, at his home. He was 64.

Les moved to Martha's Vineyard in 1970, where he assumed management of the MSPCA Shelter in Edgartown and remained in that position for 12 years. Les served on the Edgartown board of health for approximately 10 years. In 1984 he opened Animal Health Care, a full service veterinary and boarding facility, at the Martha's Vineyard Airport.

Les loved the Vineyard from the moment he moved here, and he never imagined living anywhere else. For the 36 years he lived on the Island he devoted himself to the care and welfare of all animals.

Les is survived by his wife, Joyce, his son, Geoffrey, his daughter in law, Jennifer, and his granddaughter, Kaitlyn, all of Edgartown.

His funeral Mass was held Monday, Sept. 25, in St. Elizabeth's Church in Edgartown. Interment followed in the New Westside Cemetery.
