Peter S. Hammond, 45, Was Carer, Nature Lover

Peter S. Hammond, 45, died Oct. 14, in Kingston.

For many years, Peter was a summer resident of Oak Bluffs while staying at the Martha's Vineyard Camp Meeting Association home of his late grandparents, Edward S. and Elizabeth T. Amazeen, and later at his parents' home, which was located in the Camp Ground as well.

For several summers, Peter worked at Lawry's Seafood Market in Edgartown, where he will be remembered as the "delivery boy" who always had a quick smile and wit about him.

Peter went on to graduate from Northeastern University and Laboure College with a bachelor's degree in nursing. Most recently, he was employed as a visiting nurse for Partners Home Care, based in Plymouth.

Before that, he worked for more than 25 years as administrator and registered nurse for the Mill Pond Rest Home in Hanover, which was owned by his parents.

His mother, Elizabeth A. Hammond of Hanover, predeceased him.

Survivors include his father, Edward R. Hammond Jr. of Plymouth; his older brother, Edward R. Hammond 3rd of Campton, N.H.; his older sister, Lisa H. Carvalho of Pittsfield; and his younger brother, Andrew A. Hammond of Edgartown; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Peter had a strong love for all things natural and celebrated that love by spending hours fishing or with his many patients who needed his care. Peter was a kind soul who will be missed by those he cared for and with whom he worked.

Donations may be made in Peter's name to Partners Home Care, where they have established an annual award for the health care provider that best exemplifies the spirit of Peter and the care he provided for so many. The donations may be sent to the Development Office, Partners Home Care, 200 Ledgewood Place, Rockland, MA 02370.
