Patricia Cary Corr died at her Vineyard Haven home on April 15, surrounded by her family, after a long battle with breast cancer.

She was born in Oak Bluffs on Feb. 17, 1930, to George W. and Elizabeth Mason Cary. She attended the Tisbury School until the eighth grade when her family moved to Taunton, graduating from Taunton High School in 1947. She was particularly delighted when the Tisbury High School class of 1947 invited her to be part of their 50th reunion even though she didnߣt actually graduate with them.

On New Yearߣs Eve, 1945, she attended a party with some friends where she met a young man named Robert Corr. This chance meeting began a romance that would last nearly 62 years. They married on Oct. 20, 1951 and their union produced four children and eight grandchildren.

Professionally, Pat spent 20 years as personnel director of Wheaton College in Norton. Although her job was very demanding she also found time to volunteer for many causes. She was a member of the board of directors of the Taunton Girlsߣ Club for more than 20 years and for some time volunteered as a cooking instructor. She was also very active as a member of St. Thomasߣs Episcopal Church and for a time was a teacher in the Church School.

Upon their retirement, Pat and Bob moved back to the Vineyard and they took up residence in the Cary family home on William street where she had grown up. Needing to find something to keep active outside her home, she began volunteering a few hours a week at the Marthaߣs Vineyard Hospital. While it began as a way to give back just a little bit to her community she became so devoted to the hospital and its success, she eventually became director of volunteer services and spent every weekday there. Many will remember her zipping around the hospital facility on her electric scooter. The hospital wasnߣt the only beneficiary of her love of volunteering; she also donated many hours to the Vineyard Nursing Association, an organization of caring people who would, eventually, become her loving care givers during the weeks leading up to her death.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert H. Corr of Vineyard Haven; four children, Michael H. Corr and his wife Judy, and Sandra Corr-Dolby, all of Vineyard Haven, Robert C. Corr of Boca Raton, Fla., and Jeffrey G. Corr of Taunton; eight grandchildren, Gregory Dolby, Melissa Dolby, Colleen Corr and Thomas Corr of Vineyard Haven. Jeffrey Corr 2nd, Ryan Corr and Courtney Lewis-Corr, all of Taunton, and Jennifer Corr of Edgartown. She is also survived by two brothers, John M. Cary of Spring Hill, Fla., and George W. Cary and his wife Ida of East Falmouth and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 5 at 1 p.m. at St. Andrewߣs Episcopal Church in Edgartown. A reception will follow in the parish hall.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Pat requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Vineyard Nursing Association, Pain Management Fund, P.O. Box 2568 Oak Bluffs, MA 02557.
