Malcolm O. Welch, 86, of Acre Hill Road in Barnstable, died April 25 in Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

He was the husband of Emilia Lera Welch.

Born Feb. 27, 1921 in Oak Bluffs, he was the eldest son of the late Milton and Rose deBettencourt Welch.

He was a 1938 graduate of Tisbury High School and a member of the Lambert's Cove Methodist Church.

As a member of the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, he served on destroyer escort 391 in eight convoy trips to Europe and the Mediterranean.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Peter Milton Welch of Marstons Mills; a daughter by marriage, Berna Hart Welch of Marstons Mills; a brother, Basil L. Welch of Chilmark; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Justin Welch and Marijane Poole.

An interment service will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 11 a.m. May 22. Arrangements are by the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home in North Attleboro.
