Doris (Dori) G. Schauffler Curtis, 85, of East Hill Road in Brimfield died at home June 7.

Born Feb. 5, 1922, in New Britain, Conn., she was the daughter of the late Henry and Katherine Smith Schauffler.

Dori grew up in New Britain, attended the Holmquist School in Pennsylvania and studied music at Smith College. She composed songs and music for dance, and accompanied performances of her work in New York and Massachusetts.

Among many things for which she will be remembered is her love of nature and country life in New York and Maine, where she grew beautiful gardens, enjoyed wildlife and wrote poetry.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, W. Edgar Curtis; her children, Michael Curtis of Corinth, Vt., Julie Curtis of Westport and Annie Chittenden of Madison, Conn.; her grandsons, Mark Reed and Logan Chittenden; and a sister, Allen Hanson of Vineyard Haven.

Services will be private. Memorial donations may be made to Baystate Visiting Nurses Association and Hospice, 50 Maple street, Springfield 01102. Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
