Jeanne Y. Gagnon Gaudet, 84, of Westminster died June 2 at Leominster Hospital after an illness.

She lived for the past 30 years on the Vineyard.

Jeanne was born in Victoriaville, Canada and moved to Leominster as a young child.

Through the years, Jeanne wore many different hats and was very active in the community. She was an Avon representative for 25 years and was involved in many different social activities in her parish, St. Cecilia's in Leominster. She was a member of the Franco American Vets in Leominster. She was a Post Unit 13 president and treasurer and Post National President in 1977 and 1978.

In 1995, Jeanne was chosen by Bishop Sean O'Malley to receive the Marian Medal award in recognition of personal dedication and loyal service to the Roman Catholic Church in the Diocese of Fall River. In 2004, Jeanne achieved the status of Lifetime Membership in the Ladies of Saint Anne Society.

For the past 21 years, Jeanne was dedicated in efforts to benefit the Haiti mission with the Sisters of Mary Queen Immaculate.

After moving to the Vineyard, Jeanne worked in the home and healthcare field, providing private care to the elderly. She also was involved in the Good Shepherd parish, serving as an eucharistic minister and lector.

Jeanne loved spending time with her family, playing cards, bowling, walking on the beach and feeding the birds.

Survivors include her daughter and son in law, Elaine and Raymond Bechtholdt of Westminster; her niece Dolline Jalbert of Parkersburg, W.Va., whom she raised like a daughter; one brother and three sisters, Lucien Gagnon of Westminster, Theresa Rotondi of Miami, Fla., Doris Tata of Leominster and Dora Condon of British Columbia, Canada; three step-sisters, Marie Cristofono and Anita Frechette of Leominster and Jeanne Rouleau of Fitchburg; eight grandchildren, Tabitha Sarasin, R. Gary Bechtholdt and Jennifer Nelson, Karyn Jalbert, Scott Jalbert, Kimberly Norman, Kristyn McNally and Stephanie Jalbert; 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins; and 10 godchildren; and many friends from both Leominster and the Vineyard.

She was predeceased by parents, Ovila and Dorilda (Champaigne) Gagnon; her former husband, Rudy Gaudet of Leominster; one sister, one step-sister and four brothers: Noella Charpentier of Leominster, Theresa Mailot of Canada, Edgar, Lawrence, and Michael Gagnon all of Leominster and Henry Gagnon of Florida.
