Maude Fay Patterson of Oak Bluffs and Verona, N.J., died June 20 at Mountainside Hospital, Montclair, N.J.
Daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Earl Patterson, she was a retired principal with the Newark school system.
She was a graduate of Barringer High School, St. Elizabeth College and Seton Hall University. She did graduate work at Seton Hall and Kean College. She was a sister in the Alpha Kappa Sorority.
Ms. Patterson was a member of the City Association of Supervisors and Administrators - Retired, president of the board of directors of the Newark Teacher Credit Union and a lifetime member of Bethany Baptist Church.
An avid reader and music lover, she was born and lived in Newark until moving to Verona in 2003.
Survivors include a brother, Earl Patterson of New Jersey; two sisters, Lois Carpenter of California and Jean Downing of Connecticut; a sister in law, Sara Patterson of New Jersey; three nieces, three nephews, seven greatnieces, four great-nephews; and longtime friend Isabel Meyer.
She was predeceased by brothers in law Dr. Lylburn Downing and the Rev. Samuel Carpenter.
Ms. Patterson dedicated 40 years to the children of Charlton Street School and Louisa A. Spencer School. She was a role model to many and she will be greatly missed by all.
