Heidi Anne Buchert of East Falmouth died Sept. 11 at home, surrounded by family and friends, after living four years with lung cancer.

She was one of five daughters and three sons of Anne and James Buchert. Heidi was born on Sept. 27, 1960 in Lancaster, N.Y.

Heidi met her husband, David Crabtree, while on vacation in Florida, and they returned to live in his home town of East Falmouth.

They had a daughter, Ahleya, who attends Falmouth High school.

David and Heidi were partners in a roofing and siding business, with many friends and clients in Falmouth and on the Vineyard.

Heidi was proud of her skills and hard work in the business and enjoyed taking the boat to and from work while entertaining her commuter friends with stories.

She had a unique laugh, and ever-present cup of tea.

Heidi and David loved to travel together and she had a great fondness for Hawaii. They also traveled to the states of Maine, Arizona, New Hampshire and Nevada.

She often visited her family in Buffalo, N.Y., with her daughter, and spent many summers in Canada at her parents’ cottage. Heidi loved family gatherings, holidays and had an unbridled enthusiasm for bargain hunting and consignment shops.

She was vivacious and very generous with her time and had some for everyone.

She doted on her daughter and her daughter’s friends. Her infectious laugh and radiant smile reflected her spirit and zest for life. She had boundless energy and took pride in her many house plants and gardens.

Her family and friends were most important to her.

Heidi was proud of her husband’s guitar skills and loved to listen to him playing with the band.

Heidi was a unique, dear and wonderful friend, mother and wife, and a devoted daughter, sister and aunt.

She will be terribly missed.

A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Falmouth Road and Gun club, Carriage Shop Road, East Falmouth. All are invited.

In lieu of flowers, acts of friendship and kindness are appreciated.
