Howard H. Eddy, 88, of Dunedin, Fla., died May 4 at home under the care of his family and Hospice of the Florida Suncoast.

He was born in Hartford, Conn., lived and worked in New Britain, Conn. and retired to Dunedin, Fla., in 1983.

Howard was a summer resident of the Vineyard, spending his childhood in Harthaven and his family years on Abel’s Hill in Chilmark. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, a lifetime member of the Power Squadron and a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Dunedin.

Sailing was Howard’s lifelong passion.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Margaret; two daughters, Marion Eddy of Ayer and Abigail Sabol of Condon, Mont; two sons, Stanley of Tarpon Springs, Fla., and David of Amherst; a brother, Norman of New York city; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
