Wesley R. Winton, 63, of Vineyard Haven died on May 30 in Boston after a long illness.

He was born on Oct. 16, 1943 in Taunton, and went to school in Mansfield. Then he served in the Army as a sharpshooter with field artillery. He moved to the Vineyard in the late 1960s.

He was a mason by trade and worked for many Island contractors, such as Ed Pina, Fred Thifault and Mike Reynolds, and also for the Tisbury Department of Public Works. He also was self-employed at times.

He enjoyed dancing, shellfishing, building ship models and beer-can mobile airplanes and mechanical figures, and riding the bus.

Survivors include his mother, Gertrude Barre Arissiths of Mansfield and Bonita Springs, Fla.; two daughters, Lisa Marie Winton of Providence, R.I., and Heather Mota of South Attleboro; grandson Julian Mota; two sisters, Marie McKay of Providence, R.I., and Patricia Lestan of Mansfield; brother Ted Wischki of Bonita Springs, Fla.; common-law wife Murial Moreis of Oak Bluffs; and good friend Marcia Weir of Vineyard Haven.

A service will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Vineyard Haven on Saturday, Oct. 13 at noon. A potluck memorial dance will be held immediately following at the Holy Ghost Society in Oak Bluffs. Please bring your old photos, stories and your dancing shoes.
