Beulah Tingley Callaghan of Oak Bluffs and Venice, Fla., died Thursday, Oct. 11 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital.

She was the widow of Joseph F. Callaghan and the only child of Ralph and Bertha Anderton Tingley.

She was born in Providence, R.I., on Sept. 9, 1917 and was a graduate of Hope High School. She attended Edgewood Secretarial School.

She worked for an insurance company before staying at home to raise her family. The family lived in Southboro for 40 years and Mrs. Callaghan returned to work after her children had grown. She was on the Southboro Library Board of Trustees.

Mrs. Callaghan wintered in Venice, Fla., and summered on the Vineyard in the Camp Ground, where she had been visiting since a child and her ancestors had been for generations before.

She was a member of the Historical Societies of Rhode Island and Edgartown, and enjoyed playing bridge and reading.

She is survived by her three daughters, Jo Callaghan of Narragansett, R.I., Joyce Cooper of Oak Bluffs and Janice Callaghan of Dorsett, Vt.; and her son, Edward Callaghan of Fairbanks, Alas.

Mrs. Callaghan’s funeral service and burial will be private.
