Roy A. Nutting, 83, of Hopedale died Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence in Worcester. He was the husband of Merilyn R. Moulton Nutting for 25 years.

Born in Ayer on Dec. 25, 1923, Mr. Nutting was a son of the late Archer W. and Ines M. Dole Nutting. He was a resident of Hopedale for the past 24 years and formerly lived in Edgartown and Medway.

Mr. Nutting grew up in Ayer, where he graduated from high school and spent many summers as a boy at Shady Oaks Farm in Medway.

Mr. Nutting was an Army veteran of World War II, serving for three years.

He was the former owner of Braun’s Express, Inc. in Hopedale for 15 years and also, along with his wife, Merilyn, operated the Katama Airfield on the Vineyard for 14 years. He enjoyed a lifelong love of flying. He was a longtime pilot and owned Beechcraft Bonanzas for more than 20 years.

Survivors include his wife; his children, Scott Nutting of Harvard, Donna Nutting of Medway, Jeffrey Nutting of Medway, Dawn Dube of River Ranch, Fla., and Michael Dube of Cocoa, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

His sister, Thelma Briggs, predeceased him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of his life, which will be held at the Hopedale Community House, 43 Hope street in Hopedale on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Milford Regional Medical Center Development Office, 14 Prospect street, Milford MA 01757 or to the VNA Care Hospice Development Office, 120 Thomas street, Worcester MA 01608-1280.
