Gertrude (Trudy) Scott of West Tisbury and Hingham died at home on Dec. 26 surrounded by her family. Trudy was 79.

She was a retired children’s librarian with the town of Hingham. A lifetime visitor of the Vineyard, Trudy recalled coming over as a child in the summer from the Cape for lunch at the Sea View and a ride on the carousel.

Visiting daughter Joanne and her grandchildren over the years was a regular event. She was involved in many Island activities. She was often on a library conference with Debbie MacInnis. For the last six months, Trudy read to the students at Nancy’s Pre-School in West Tisbury. She enjoyed children, including her own, right to the end. Trudy will be greatly missed by all.

Survivors include her children Joanne Scott of West Tisbury, Patricia Scott Mann of Indianapolis, Ind., John Scott of West Tisbury, Michelle Scott Brown of Bluffton, S.C., and Frederick Scott of West Tisbury; grandchildren Benjamin Stafford of West Tisbury, Tabor Stafford of Allston, Scott Flory of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Brendan Flory of Hilton Head, S.C.; and great-grandson Benjamin Stafford of Wilmington. Her grandson Ted died in February.

Services will be held in Hingham at the Resurrection Church, Main street, Hingham on Saturday, Jan. 5. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.
