Margery Hart Cory, 97, a resident of Oak Bluffs, died Jan. 13 at Windemere Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 13, 1910 in Fall River, the daughter of William A. Hart and Annie Minikin.
She attended Wheelock College in Boston and Abbot Academy in Andover. She spent her childhood summers in the Methodist Camp Ground in Oak Bluffs, where her great-grandparents summered, and her parents had met.
She was a teacher, working with students from kindergarten through second grade. Her first teaching job was in the Dalton School in New York city. She loved teaching, adored children and taught in public and private schools for 45 years.
After retiring, she moved to Oak Bluffs. With her little dogs, she made her home for twenty years on Vineyard avenue extension. The last few years of her life were spent in the wonderful care of Windemere.
Survivors include her children, Chappell Cory and Suzanne Warren of Oak Buffs and Stephen Cory of Centerville; her grandchildren, Christopher Cory, Brian Cory and Lilla Cory Warren; and her brother, Albion Hart of the Camp Ground, Oak Bluffs.
She was predeceased by her husband Chappell Cory Jr., who died in 1973.
A private memorial service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Windemere Nursing and Rehabilitation, P.O. Box 1477, Oak Bluffs MA 02557.
