Honoria Shirley Adams of Vineyard Haven died March 17 at home. She was 89.

Born March 4, 1919, she was raised in New Bedford and attended local schools.

For many years she played the cello with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra. For more than 20 years, she spent her summers on the Vineyard, where she owned and operated the Music Box Restaurant, and her winters in Warwick, R.I.

While on the Vineyard, she was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the Martha’s Vineyard Co-Op. She was also an avid quilter, reader and gardener.

Survivors include her lifelong companion, Barbara Barstow of Vineyard Haven; her sisters, Patricia Bridges and Cecile Teixeira, both of New Bedford; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be private.
