Mary Ellen Campos Barbera died March 14 in Northridge, Calif., after a period of declining health. She was 74.

Ellen was born in Oak Bluffs on April 21, 1933. She was one of four children of the late John R. and Alice H. Campos. She graduated from Oak Bluffs High School in the class of 1951 and went on to become a registered nurse after graduating from the Newton Wellesley School of Nursing in the class of 1954.

Ellen was a nurse and supervisor for 30 years at Northridge Hospital Medical Center in Northridge, Calif. She was loved and respected by doctors, nurses and staff. It was most gratifying for the family to see so many of her colleagues and friends stop in to see her and say goodbye during her final days.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary (Betsy) Velasquez of Amherst, N.H., her daughter Julie Barbera of San Antonio, Tex., and a son, Richard Barbera of Northridge, Calif.; her grandchildren: Moriah and Chloe Kennedy, Tara Connolly and Michelle and Rick Huston; her sisters, Jane C. Carroll of Vineyard Haven and Patricia Manzoni of Easton; and her brother, John Campos of Bedford.

She was predeceased by her grandson Sean Connolly and her granddaughter Brenna Connolly.

A private ceremony will be held at a later date.
