Bruce A. Younger of Edgartown died in his sister Grace’s arms on April 16 in Orange after a brief illness. He was 58.

Mr. Younger was born in Marblehead on July 16, 1948.

He was a longtime resident of Edgartown. He worked as a carpenter, painter and most recently as a charter fisherman. His love for the ocean and fishing is well-known to all those who loved him. Bruce said that his great accomplishment in life was his daughter, Bennett.

Survivors include his daughter, Summer Bennett McPhetres of Rochester, Vt.; his sisters, Diane Dean of North Carolina, Grace Leger of Orange and Jodi Ann McNamara of Methuen; his brothers, Daniel Bennett of Beverly, Nathaniel Bennett of Searsmont, Me., and Jefferson Bennett of Rhode Island; his stepmother, Phillis Dukes of Rhode Island; and many nephews and nieces, including Rachel Salamone of New Hampshire and Ethan Oyer of South Boston.

Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Deborah Fowler Younger and Paul O. Younger, a sister, Lynne D. Harries, and a brother, Jonathan P. Younger.

There are no calling hours.

He will set sail on his final journey from the Vineyard at a date and time to be determined by family and close friends.

In his final days, Bruce was assisted by Hospice of Franklin County (48 Sanderson street, Greenfield MA 01301) and Hope Lodge (American Cancer Society, 7 Oak street, Worcester MA 01609-2508.) The family suggests contributions be made in his name to either organization.
