Michael Edward (Bo) Bowman Jr. died suddenly at age 39 on July 9 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York city.

Bo graduated from Trinity-Pawling School in 1986 where he was a member of the drama club; he attended Vassar College and graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 1993 where he danced, acted and performed stand-up comedy.

Bo loved the Vineyard. He discovered it the summer of 1986 when he and seven other classmates from Trinity-Pawling rented a house on Centre street in Vineyard Haven. He soon found the Vineyard Playhouse up the street where he joined a group of young men and women doing stand-up comedy and improvisation (the group eventually became WIMP). Over ensuing summers, Bo continued to perform and played a number of roles in the Shakespeare productions in the Tisbury amphitheatre.

He was employed by MAC Cosmetics and also worked as a freelance make-up artist in the metropolitan area.

He will always be remembered for his dazzling smile, wacky sense of humor, unique interpretive dancing, ebullient writing and rampant creativity. His greatest gift was making everyone with whom he came into contact feel special. He was the kindest, most adorable, fun-loving, creative, loving man who has ever graced Manhattan (and Brooklyn). We have lost our spark.

He is survived by his partner Andy Wilcox; his mother Joan Bowman and siblings Jonathan Bowman, Derrik Hoitsma, Jim Hoitsma, Lisa Hoitsma Favorini, and Teke Hoitsma; and scores of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Michael Edward Bowman Sr.

In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to MAC AIDS Fund, 130 Prince St., New York, NY 10012. A celebration of his life will take place on August 23 at 6 p.m. at the Tavern on the Green in Manhattan.
