Calvin C. Zaiko, former owner of The Beach House in Oak Bluffs, died at his home in West Palm Beach, Fla., on July 15.

Calvin’s grandfather, Clement Kalkowski, bought the house on the corner of Sea View and Pennacook avenues in the late 1890s. The entire family summered there until Calvin began running it as a bed and breakfast around 1972.

Calvin was born April 19, 1947, to the late Jean Kalkowski Zaiko Burt and Theodore Zaiko. He grew up in New Britain, Conn., and was graduated from the Pomfret School and The University of Connecticut. He was a very talented musician, but never realized his full potential.

Rest in peace, Calvin. We love you.

Survivors include his wife Pamela; his son Justin; and cousins Susan Kalkowski Madrak of Cheshire, Conn., Sharon Kalkowski Morgan of Homasassa, Fla., and Stephen Kalkowski and Roger Orsie of Southington, Conn.
