Anne T. Satterthwaite, a resident of East Dummerston, Vt., and Edgartown, died in the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital on Oct. 5. She was 94.

Born Feb. 1, 1914, Anne was the great-granddaughter of John Aikman Stewart, who was the founder in 1853 of the United States Trust Company, and in 1864 was Assistant Treasurer of the United States under Abraham Lincoln. He was named a trustee of Princeton University and served from 1868 to 1926. Her father was John Aikman Stewart 3rd and her mother was Ethel Abercrombie Stewart. Anne lived for many years in Short Hills, N.J. In 1937 she was married to Thomas Wilkinson Satterthwaite Jr.

Mr. and Mrs. Satterthwaite moved to Oldwick, N.J., where they lived until Mr. Satterthwaite’s death in 1992. They spent six months of every year in Edgartown. In 1993 Anne moved to East Dummerston, Vt., where she lived until her death.

She graduated in 1931 from the Foxcroft School. She attended Bryn Mawr College and received a certificate in 1936 from the Parsons School of Design. She was a lifelong painter, enjoying studies at the Art Students League, the Old Sculpin Gallery in Edgartown and the River Gallery in Brattleboro, Vt. She was also an avid gardener, and she spent many hours in her vegetable and flower gardens. At one time, she was employed by McGraw-Hill Company and MacMillan & Company as an editor.

She was a member of the Colony Club of New York, the Edgartown Yacht Club and the Martha’s Vineyard Garden Club. She was also a member of St. Michael’s Church in Brattleboro, Vt. She and her husband, Wilkie, traveled throughout the United States, Canada, and South America, as well as England and Scotland — wherever the fishing was best.
