Frank B. (Buck) Carr of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and Edgartown died on Nov. 5 at home in Cleveland Heights.

A former football player both in high school and at college, he earned the nickname Buck early on from a coach who had used the same nickname for his father.

He was born Dec. 4, 1927 in Cleveland, the son of Claude and Anita Carr. He was a proud alumnus of the University School, where he graduated in 1946, preceded by his father and followed by his son and grandson. An accomplished athlete, he was captain of both the varsity track and wrestling teams in addition to playing varsity football. He also was an accomplished scout, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.

He attended Yale University where he continued to play football and was a member of St. Anthony Hall, graduating in 1950. Following college he enrolled at Harvard Business School, earning his master’s degree in business administration in 1952. He then returned home to Cleveland, where he joined Reliance Electric. As product manager he was asked to put together a commercial research department, and he hired Alan Greenspan. In 1957 he joined Robert Heller and Associates as a consultant. In 1963 he entered the world of investment banking at McDonald & Company. He retired in 1990 after serving as managing director of corporate finance.

He loved to travel with his wife Bobbie, and among other things they rafted all the major rivers in the country. He played tennis, skied and was an expert at bridge.

But of all the places he traveled, the Vineyard was the place he loved most to spend time with his family. He and his wife have owned their home on South Summer street in Edgartown for 30 years.

He was a member of numerous boards of directors for various organizations from schools and universities to foundations.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Briggs Carr; his children, Kimberly C. Harmon and her husband Mark of Kentfield, Calif., F. Halle and her husband Samuel of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; his grandchildren Halley, Trevor and Henry Harmon; Brett (007) and Cecily Carr, and Hollander and August Halle; and a sister Marilyn Chally Christiansen of Torrance, Calif.
