Alexander B. Daniels, a longtime summer resident of Oak Bluffs, died on Jan. 30 in St. Petersburg, Fla., after a long illness.

Alex, also known as Red Daniels, spent summers from 1925 to 1993 at his home on Windemere Road in Oak Bluffs. In his youth he worked at the Girl Scout Sailing Camp. He served with the 8th Air Force, 466th Bomb Group during World War II. He attended Northeastern University in Boston.

He joined the Masons in 1947 and served with various Masonic bodies, including the Egypt Temple Shriners, for 62 years. He was a member and officer in Great Blue Hill Power Squadron.

He retired to Florida in 1980, making St. Petersburg his winter home. In 1993 due to health issues, St. Petersburg became his permanent residence.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, P. Teri Daniels; son Bruce, daughter in law Rhonda, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
