Dale E. Robinson lost his battle with lung cancer on March 21. He was born April 27, 1941 in Louisville, Ky. Dale was the son of Onslow S. Robinson, a native Islander, and Edna (Baldwin) Robinson of New Bedford. The family returned to the Vineyard when Dale was 6. He has been a Vineyarder most of his life. He attended the Menemsha School in Chilmark, and Tisbury School in Vineyard Haven. A short time ago Dale worked really hard to get his GED.
One of five children, Dale was pre-deceased by his brother, Albert Robinson Sr., and by his sister Betty L. Quinn. Surviving him are his sister Diane Leonard of Vineyard Haven and a brother Norman F. Robinson of Manhattan Beach, Calif. Nieces and nephews include Albert Robinson Jr. of Vineyard Haven, Clifton Robinson of Oak Bluffs, Lori Fisher, Rhonda Fauteaux, Debra Manley, all of Edgartown, Jeanne Alwardt of New Hampshire, Paula Bliss of Falmouth, Kathy Victoria of Austin, Tex., Raymond Morris of Omha, Neb., and Keith Robinson of Manhattan Beach. He also had many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Dale was employed in construction by his father’s contracting business, and enjoyed scalloping in Menemsha Pond. For a time he was self-employed in lawn maintenance. He worked as an operator of automatic production machines for a shop in Torrance, Calif., and later on road maintenance crews for the town of Chilmark.
He was happiest when caring for animals, and took care of two horses on his parents’ property. He always had one or more dogs, finally including Fraulein, who was brought to the hospital by Matt and Brenda Starfursky, to visit him frequently while he was in hospice care.
The memorial service was held Thursday, March 26 at the West Tisbury Congregational Church. Interment is at Abels Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to your favorite chairty may be made in his name.
