Raymond Charles Howick, born in Buffalo, N.Y. June 3, 1926, died at home in Evanston, Ill., on March 14, 2009.

Ray was a radar operator on the USS Trego during World War II. He graduated from the University of Buffalo in 1949 and worked for Ontario Biscuit Co. He later joined Moog in East Aurora, N.Y. He received an MBA from the University of Buffalo in 1966. He moved to Wilmette, Ill., in 1969 and worked as a purchasing executive for the Chicago corporations FMC, ITW, Beatrice Foods and Sara Lee. He retired in 1993 and moved to Evanston.

He loved tennis, swimming and his daily workouts at the YMCA. He and his wife, Laurie, purchased a home on East Chop in 1985 after spending several vacations at the Bandbox. After retirement the Howicks spent mid-May to early October at their summer home and came to love the wonderful community. Ray served on the board and as president of the East Chop Tennis Club. He was a familiar sight in his bright red Morgan sports car.

He was preceded in death by his wife Muriel May Howick. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Laurie, and his sons Andrew and Ward and daughters in law Mary Trupke and Patty Devoy, and grandchildren Danny, Ginny and Ryan Howick, and many other relatives and friends.

There will be celebrations of his life later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Polly Hill Arboretum or the charity of your choice.
