Audrey E. Spector, 87, of Livingston, N.J. and longtime summer resident of Martha’s Vineyard, died Saturday, March 21 at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.

Audrey was born in New York city on March 8, 1922, the daughter of Louis and Doris Effross and was raised in Rockaway, N.Y.

She met her husband, Julius Spector, while both were working for military intelligence during World War II. They lived in Livingston since 1953 after marriage. Together they summered on the Vineyard with their family since 1954 and were members of the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center.

Audrey was an avid golfer, loved gardening, animals, cooking and was an accomplished artist. She was very involved with community service and was a founder of the Temple Beth Shalom in Livingston.

She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 63 years, Julius E. Spector, in 2008, and her daughter, Lynne Aubin in 2003. She is survived by her son, Stuart Spector of Edgartown; her sister, Barbara Isaacs of Reston, Va.; her granddaughter, Brooke Aubin of Vineyard Haven; and many loving friends and relatives. She was a good friend and neighbor.

Her graveside service was held Friday, March 27 in the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Cemetery in Vineyard Haven, officiated by Rabbi Caryn Broitman. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 24, in Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel in Livingston.
