Moira L. Filley, 82, of Far Hills, N.J., and Chappaquiddick died on Wednesday, March 25 at her home, Oldacre Farm in Far Hills.

She was born in New York city on Feb. 11, 1927, a daughter of the late Johnston Livingston Redmond and Katharine Sergeant Haven. She had resided in Far Hills for the past 56 years and was a summer resident of Chappaquiddick.

She grew up in New York city, in Tivoli, N.Y. and The Plains, Va., and was educated at the Spence School. In 1949 she married Oliver D. Filley, whom she had known since childhood. Mrs. Filley was a volunteer driver for the Red Cross during World War II. She was a member of the Garden Club of Somerset Hills, the New York Botanical Gardens and the Lords of the Manor Society.

She served on the board of directors of the Clarence Dillon Public Library in Bedminster, N.J., and the Bedminster Township Historical Society.

For over 50 years she spent summers at her family home on Chappaquiddick, where she loved working in her garden and bird-watching. She was an avid naturalist and accomplished orchidist; there was always something in bloom at her house.

She is survived by her husband and her five children: Patrick Oliver Filley of Wilton, Conn., Katharine Haven Filley Cutler of West Tisbury, Jonathan Dwight Filley of Millbrook, N.Y., Joseph Woodward Filley of Edgartown, and Oliver Brown Filley of Pottersville, N.J.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, J. Woodward Redmond, of Bethesda, Md.
