Jesus said, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” Having lived an abundant life, Alfhid C. (Connie) Noyes died peacefully in her sleep on May 13, at the Nurturing Nest in Falmouth, enveloped in love.

Connie was born in New Britain, Conn. on Feb. 16,1912, the fourth child of Per Alfred Johnson and Anna Sophia Larson of Sweden. She left high school and took a job as a domestic for the Hart family during the Great Depression to help support her family. While working for the Harts on Martha’s Vineyard, she met and became sweethearts with Orris E. Noyes. They were married when he returned from World War II. Orris died April 7,1994.

Although she lacked formal education, Connie had an extensive knowledge of birds and plants. She was the neighborhood authority on gardening and canning. She had wisdom and love that knew no bounds.

Connie is survived by her son, Alfred E. and his wife, Cheryl A. Noyes of Edgartown, and her daughter, Betty A. and her husband, Rick Smith of East Falmouth; also by grandchildren Tammy A. and husband Andrew Renkawitz of Waltham, Kristie E. and husband John Mayhew of West Tisbury, Kelly P. and husband Dan Harlow of Readville, Cindy L. Noyes, and Fred Noyes both of Edgartown; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Gertrude Laitenen of Connecticut; nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones too numerous to count.

Memorial donations may be made to John Wesley United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 696, Falmouth, MA 02541; or the Visiting Nurse Association, P.O. Box 370, Hyannis, MA 02601.

A memorial service will be held at John Wesley UMC, Gifford street and Jones Road, Falmouth, at a date to be announced.
