Alice Scott of Edgartown Road died at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital on May 31, surrounded by her family and friends.
Alice was born on May 25, 1928, the youngest child of George and Lillian Alley Magnuson. Throughout her life she was proud of her Portuguese heritage; her grandparents were Antone and Mary Silvia Alley, who moved to West Tisbury in 1900 and he became a farmer.
She graduated from Tisbury High School in 1945. Alice worked as a waitress for several years on the Island and winters in Florida, as a secretary at the Boston Police Relief Association and was a caregiver to many elderly people on the Island.
She was married to Sam Burleson with whom she had a daughter, Nancy, and later to Hank Scott. She also leaves a brother, George Jr., his wife, Priscilla, and their family of Edgartown, grandchildren Sam and Kelly Arruda, many cousins, and her faithful companion Trigger that she enjoyed walking everyday.
A graveside service will be held on July 11 at noon in the West Tisbury Cemetery.
